Establishment and spread of the melaleuca psyllid in water conservation areas

These data will demonstrate the environmentally compatible yet successful method of melaleuca control in permanently wet sites. Release and establishment of the melaleuca psyllid will be monitored and quantitative assessments of psyllid abundance will be made in water conservation areas. In addition, rates of spread of biological control agents will be measured within each plot. From this study we will evaluate optimal release strategies for biological control agents, assess site characteristics that influence establishment of populations, and ultimately establish self-sustaining field colonies in this ecologically sensitive area.
